Formed in 1998, Nomad Information Systems (Pty) Ltd was a joint initiative between Barone, Budge and Dominick (Pty) Ltd - a leading South African software development company - and Mathold - founded by highly ranked ex-First National Bank IT specialists in electronic funds transfer (EFT) systems.
Bringing together independent thinking and passion, these two groups collaborated to design and develop Nomad - creating an open platform for the future by using a modular design to ensure adaptability and relevance.
Today Nomad is an electronic payment solution processing all bank cards (debit cards, credit cards, smartcards) and other payment cards (private label, loyalty, gift and stored-value), while also providing a range of third-party services such as municipal bill payments and prepaid vouchers for airtime and electricity.
Comprising modules that are integrated with a merchant’s point-of-sale (POS) system, Nomad's offerings mask the complexities of communicating with multiple acquirer interfaces from a POS application and deal efficiently with the complexities of interfacing with various types of card reader and PIN pad, using various encryption methods.
Through a Nomad-enabled POS system a merchant no longer requires separate, stand alone devices. Benefits of a Nomad enabled system include a dynamic, end-to-end solution that provides peace of mind, improves operational efficiencies and affords merchants the time to manage their core business environments competitively and profitably.
Nomad is currently integrated to over 10 000 retail points nationally and processes in excess of R10 billion worth of transactions per annum.
